Weekend Wrap Up:9

April 6, 2015

I’ve gotten pretty comfortable running 10 miles on Saturdays.  It’s been a good goal to keep and something I’ve been able to do consistently almost every Saturday since January.
But this weekend was not my weekend.
Some days are just off days.
This was not my weekend for a good run.
Saturday I got up and went to work at 5:30.  I rushed home when I finished to meet my sister and two friends ready for a run at 7:30.  I was just tired. Really – I was tired before we even started, which is bad news.  I said 5 was all I could do.  So we went for a different route with some hills.

And I felt like I was going to die.

Let me back up: It’s allergy season.  I started some medication (that I took last year without problems) this week and I’ve really been lagging since I started it.  My 5 mile run Thursday left me feeling like I had just run my half marathon and then some. But I kinda shrugged it off. I should have known better than to take the medication Friday night, but I took it and I regretted it during my run Saturday.  My sister and fast friend took off.  My friend who is trying to avoid an injury stayed with me and we ran slow.  So slow. I am pretty sure she was just being kind to me. I could have walked.  I kept checking my watch…I felt so bad and it hadn’t even been two miles yet!  ugh.  When we saw the other two turn up another hill ahead, we decided to turn down the hill..and back home.

Somehow I pushed through it and finished the five miles that I did want to finish.  I spent the rest of the day sitting on the couch not moving.  And listening to some great spiritual messages found here.

Even a bad run is better than no run. Maybe?  My podiatrist husband might not agree. But I am glad I went Saturday.  I managed to make it through and finish my 5 miles.  I am pretty sure I would have given up and sat on the side of the road if it hadn’t been for my friend.  I am not even kidding.  Running friends are good to have on a bad day.
Monday: 5 miles
Tuesday: 3 miles
Wednesday: 12 miles on the bike
Thursday: 5 miles
Friday: I took a nap (not kidding…I really did)
Saturday: 5 miles that almost killed me.
But I pushed through and finished them all.

It’s spring break.  I’m excited to hopefully run outside.  Hopefully get this allergy business figured out and get some running done.
