Summer Reading List

May 21, 2015

Summer is almost here!  I am so excited for some down time and time not spent running here and there.  Summer is a great time for reading.  Although I have to admit, some summers I actually spent less time reading then during the school year, because we are so busy having a great summer!

I thought I would compile a summer reading list this year, a couple of books that are on my radar that I am hoping to get to in the next couple months.  After logging into Amazon and creating a wish list, I started adding books…and books…and more books.  I quickly had over 70 books on my “summer reading list” wish list!  My summer books are all “summery-beach-y” type reads either, just books I am really looking to getting around to.

It was so hard to narrow them down, but I think I’ve finally done it.
My top picks for my 2015 Summer Reading List.

All The Light We Cannot See, Anthony Doerr
I’ve started this book a couple times, but never really sat down and given it a chance.  I keep hearing such good things about it, I think it’s time.

Big Little Lies, Liane Moriarty

I really liked What Alice Forgot, and this is another book by Moriarty.  HBO has made this book into a series.

Janitors Book Three, Tyler Whitesides

If I can pry this book away from my boys, I would love to finish book 3 and book 4 this summer.  I just recently finished book two and hope to post the review soon!

All Regency Collection

Don’t laugh at me for posting this book, but sometimes these short little story books are perfect for the summer when we are sitting outside in the backyard or I just have an afternoon for something short and sweet.  This book has a couple of my favorite authors.

Saving Marilee, Annette K. Larsen

I’ve loved Just Ella and Missing Lily by Larsen.  I am looking forward to reading this cute book.

Counting by 7s, Holly Sloan

This book is suggested an amazon if you love the book Wonder.  I LOVED Wonder.  I also had a friend read this book and she couldn’t put it down.  So I think I’ll really enjoy it!

The Master Magician, Charlie N. Holmberg

This is the third book in a trilogy that just came out last year.  I have really enjoyed the first two books.  (They’ve been on sale recently on the kindle too).  I think the story is interesting and I can’t wait to see how it all ends up.

The Firebird, Susanna Kearsley

A friend sent me another book by Kersley a few years ago and I really enjoyed it, but I have never got around to reading any of her other books.  I am looking forward to jumping into this one.

The Distant Hours, Kate Morton

The last book by Morton that I haven’t read.  I am looking forward to this one, I hope it doesn’t disappoint, then I have to wait until October when her next book is released.

The Curiosity Keeper, Sarah E. Ladd

I really enjoy books by Ladd, I read through a whole bunch of them last year when I read my 100 books.  This is a new release for this summer.

The Law of Moses, Amy Harmon

At the library book club last week author Julianne Donaldson said this was the last book that she read.  So I thought that was a good enough recommendation for me. It looks interesting and I hope it’s good!

Runners Up:
Escape from Mr. Lemoncello’s Library, Chris Grabenstein; Pumpkin Roll, Josi Killpack; Ella Enchanted, Gail Carson Levine; Fish in a Tree, Lynda Mullaly Hunt,; The Fortune Hunter, Daisy Goodwin; Little Women, Louisa May Alcott; The Fairy-Tale Detectives, Michael Buckley; Beyond All Dreams, Elizabeth Camden; With Every Breath, Elizabeth Camden; The Secrets of Pembrooke Park, Julie Klassen; The Book Thief, Markus Zusak; The Scarlet Pimpernel, Baroness Orzcy

Smart Women Know When to Say No, Dr. Kevin Leman
I kinda love Dr. Leman’s books. It’s been a while since I’ve read one by him, but I’ve added two to my top picks for this summer.

Love Life and See Good Days, Emily Freeman

I love Emily Freeman’s books. and I am looking forward to this book. I am a firm believer that there is good in every day.  Some days you might really have to look hard for it, but I think it’s there.

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Families, Steven R. Covey

Honestly, II can’t remember if I have ever read this before in the past or not, but I think it would be a good book to review.
Born to Run, Christopher McDougall

This has been suggested to me from a friend and I am looking forward to getting around to reading it soon.  Maybe while I am recovering from my two half marathons this summer?

The Glass Castle, Jeannette Walls

A friend told me about this book and I looked it up and my first thought was this looked like a book that would be hard to read, but hard to put down.  I hope to get around to it

Reading Like a Writer, Francine Prose

I have to admit, this book has been sitting on my kindle carosel for far too long and I have never got around to it.  I added it to the list so I have more motivation to getting around to it.

Running and Being, George Sheehan

Another running book – this one looks really interesting to me. The reviews say this book focuses more on life than running and how exercise can bring happiness.
21 Days to a more Disciplined Life, Crystal Paine

I LOVE Crystal Paine and Money Saving Mom blog.  I am a huge fan and I can’t believe I haven’t read this book by her yet.  If you don’t read her blog or her books – you should really take a look at them!

The Total Money Makeover, Dave Ramsey

I am sad to admit, but I haven’t read this book yet.  I am the last person to have read it on the planet, I know.

Why Your Best IS Good Enough, Dr. Kevin Leman

Yes.  Another one by Dr. Leman.  Because I love him.

Strong Mothers, Strong Sons, Meg Meeker

I’ve read a couple other books by Meg Meeker in the past and think they are worthwhile.  I think since I have 3 boys, this might be a good book for me to pick up soon.

Runners Up:
Sole Sisters, Jennifer Lin; The 7 Habits of Happy Kids, Sean Covey; How Will You Measure Your Life?, Clayton Christensen; Savor: Living Abundantly Where You Are, As You Are, Shauna Niequist, Time Management Mama, Sarah Korhnak and Beth Anne Schwamberger; The Hardest Peace, Kara Tippets; You are What You Eat, Eli Parker

There you have it….my summer reading list top picks. And I’m sure I could log onto amazon right now and find 5, maybe 10 more books to add to this list too. I have a problem.

And NO…I don’t think I will get through all these books this summer.  But it’s a great place for me to start!

Do you love summer reading?
What are you planning on reading this summer?
