Summer Reading List

August 20, 2015

School started yesterday here.  We have two days under our belt now.  My little guy is counting down the days until he starts kindergarten next week.  I’ve posted a few of my kids favorite books from their reading this summer this week.  With the close of summer, I should probably review my summer reading list too.

If you remember, back in the spring I came up with a summer reading list and posted a couple of the books I was looking forward too and what I hoped to read.  Summer is always hit and miss with reading for me.  The kids are home and we are busy doing activities.  I don’t always get time for reading.  Last summer I think I read 3 books total.  This summer I did much better, but I still have a lot of books left on my to-read list.  So many books and never enough time, right?

From my long list of  fiction summer reading list I read three:
Saving Marilee, Annette K. Larsen
Master Magician, Charlie N. Holmberg
The Curiosity Keeper, Sarah E. Ladd

I was really excited to read all three of the books above – as they were all released this summer. And I loved them all!  Such great books.

I also read Pumpkin Roll, by Josi Kilpack that was on my runner up summer reading list and I then finished 7 other books in that series.  So that was a big chunk of reading in July!

From my list of non-fiction summer reading list I read two, and then one from my runner up list:
Smart Women Know When to Say No, Dr. Kevin Leman
21 Days to a more Disciplined Life, Crystal Paine

I loved the 21 days book – Crystal Paine is always a hit with me.  The Smart Women book was alright, not my favorite, and not really the advice that I was looking for at the time.  But I did read Time Management Mama, by Sarah Korhnak and Beth Anne Schwamberger from my runner’s up list and I really loved it.  It was a great book with lots of resources and ideas.

Overall, I think my summer was full of some great books and time well spent reading.  I think I read more fiction than non-fiction, but that’s ok.  I haven’t kept track of what books I’ve read in what month this year, like I did last year, but I’ve posted 27 books since June and I know I have a couple more drafts of reviews waiting to be published!  What a great number for the summer!

A couple other favorites that I found this summer, that didn’t make it on my original summer reading list but are totally worth mentioning:
Castle Hangnail, Ursula Vernon
The Miracle Morning, Hal Enrod
Les Miserable: Children’s Edition, Matthew Larsen
Wedding Cake, Josi Kilpack

How was your summer reading? Have any favorites or ones you couldn’t stand?  I would love to hear how it all went!
