Body Image Part 1: My First Trip to a Spa

September 7, 2015

Recently I was given the opportunity to visit Mountainside Spa in Holladay and treat myself to a treatment.  My husband kind of laughed at me when I approached him with this idea.  And not for the reason you are probably thinking…He has tried (unsuccessfully) to get me to go for a massage or spa treatment before and I always  told him some excuse about not having enough time for myself or said something about being too busy. So when I told him I really wanted to do it, he was SO supportive and encouraging of this idea.
He knew this would be a great experience for me.

This was my first ever spa experience.  I was a really nervous and not really sure what to expect. Going in, they told me exactly what to expect and there were no surprises.  I felt so much better after talking to their staff.  I was given a couple different options, and between when I set up the appointment and when I got there, I decided to change my mind on what treatments I would like to receive.  I was worried this would throw them off, but they were very flexible and let me change my mind.  I received a facial treatment and body massage.

Moutainside is a “green” spa and all their products are earth friendly.  I learned a lot about heat and how that can help my face. Heat from things like jalapenos and peppers – they can be great for your face! Since baby number 5 I’ve also suffered occasionally from hormonal acne.  (I learned that it has this name from my research the last couple weeks)  I have always been so embarrassed by this, honestly, it’s kinda hard to even put it on this blog post, but the staff at Mountainside was so informative!  Karen was the esthetician who gave me my facial, and she really helped me understand some treatments that could help.  A lot of women in their 30’s suffer from this, and at Mountainside they also offer one of the only skin care lines that treats hormonal acne!  One of the reasons that I decided to change my treatment last minute is that my chin area(where hormonal acne is located) really flared up the day of the appointment.  But the products they used made it feel and look SO much better.

After my facial I had a body massage by Ezralea, who was to easy to talk to and made the appointment very comfortable. It felt like HEAVEN.  I have never had a massage before, and I am always so tense and stressed.  My running legs, especially, are always tight.  (I probably really do need to stretch more).  I left the spa feeling so relaxed and at peace.  I slept better that night than I normally do and I felt so much better the next day.

I am completely hooked.
I can’t wait to get my husband hooked too!

Mountainside Spa is having a grand opening even THIS week. Thursday, September 10th from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm they will host an open house, so come when you can and visit with them, see their awesome facility and enter to win products and treatments.

You can also like their Facebook page, HERE, where they will occasionally post about specials and free training treatments.  I actually accidentally got one of these a few days prior to my spa treatment because when I called they had just posted about one of these free training treatments and there was a mix up with the appointment.  But there was nothing that felt like “training” at that appointment either!  It was just as relaxing and informative as the facial/massage!

Thanks to the amazing staff at Mountainside Spa I realized that I do need to occasionally take a little bit of time to myself.  It was so peaceful, relaxing and just what I needed emotionally.
