From the Publisher:
Cameron Diaz shares her formula for becoming happier, healthier, and stronger in this positive, essential guide grounded in science and inspired by personal experience, now a #New York Times bestseller.

Throughout her career, Cameron Diaz has been a role model for millions of women. By her own candid admission, though, this fit, glamorous, but down-to-earth star was not always health-conscious. Learning about the inseparable link between nutrition and the body was just one of the life-changing lessons that has fed Cameron’s hunger to educate herself about the best ways to feed, move, and care for her body. In The Body Book, she shares what she has learned and continues to discover about nutrition, exercise, and the mind/body connection.

Grounded in science and informed by real life, The Body Book offers a comprehensive overview of the human body and mind, from the cellular level up. From demystifying and debunking the hype around food groups to explaining the value of vitamins and minerals, readers will discover why it’s so important to embrace the instinct of hunger and to satisfy it with whole, nutrient-dense foods. Cameron also explains the essential role of movement, the importance of muscle and bone strength and why we need to sweat a little every day.

The Body Book does not set goals to reach in seven days or thirty days or a year. It offers a holistic, long-term approach to making consistent choices and reaching the ultimate goal: a long, strong, happy, healthy life.

Review:
When I was thinking about reading some books on body image/health and beauty I went to my library and checked out a lot of books.  I also browsed through a lot of books on my kindle.  I downloaded the sample to this book but I wasn’t sure it was one I really wanted to read.   Then – True story – my 2 year old helped make the decision for me, because she must have got around the parental controls and somehow purchased the kindle version of this book!  I was planning on calling Amazon to get my money back and return the book when a friend recommended the book to me and said it really was a great informative book.

She was right!  I was so surprised with this book.  I totally thought it would be filled with fluff and lots of basic information but it’s very scientific and packed full of so much information!  I felt like I was learning from a text book – but the book was really enjoyable to read too – unlike a text book.

The book really made me think twice about my eating, sleeping and habits in general.  I was highlighting and taking so many notes as I read.  The book is divided into three parts - nutrition, fitness and mind.  I really learned a lot from the nutrition section, but I really loved the mind section as well. I think if I could pick one thing to improve on, it would be my eating habits.

“The food we consume over the course of a day creates the experiences we have in that day.  Because what we eat carries the stuff of life – our lives” -Cameron Diaz

“The responsibility to be healthy is in your hands- no one else is going to do it for you.  So ask yourself: do you want to live in a body that allows you do do the things you want to do, a body that is full of health and capability, that you are prod to call your own?  Because it’s your choice” – Cameron Diaz

This book really inspired me.  It made me think twice about my actions how I’m treating my body.  It calls you into action.

If you enjoy reading about health, are struggling with body image or want to make some changes, this book is one that I would recommend.
