Weekly Wrap Up: 28

September 21, 2015

It was a race weekend! My sister and I ran the BYU Sugar Rush 5K.  According to my Garmin, I didn’t beat my personal record for 5K (which I set this summer and was running completely downhill the whole time), but I felt really good about my splits and time for this race.

The first mile, maybe mile and a half, are all uphill and then it’s downhill to the end.  It was super crowded at the beginning too – so hard to get around big groups, which is kinda becoming my race pet peeve.  I LOVE running with someone or with a group – but be aware of who is around you, especially during a race!  I listened to my Rock My Run playlist and pushed on.  You have to push the entire time during a 5K.  I followed a girl wearing Ogden Temple House shirt for most of the race.  With half a mile to go I decided to push it and passed her, then at a quarter mile to go she whizzed past me. I totally should have waited for the quarter mile too.  Props to her.

My sister and I were both a little confused by the age categories in this race.  There was a under 20, a 21-26 category and then an 26-99 age category.  What?!!?  Usually you don’t see 40+ year old women against 26 year old women, but they did.  And my sister showed them!  She took first! I placed 4th in our age division.

This was the first year this race took place, but I think I’ll run it again next year.  It supports a great cause, 100% of the funds are used to educate and research diabetes.  Both my husband and I each have a sister with type one diabetes.  Finding a cure would be such a blessing to SO many families!

Last Weeks Totals:
Monday: 3 miles
Tuesday: 7 miles
Wednesday: 3 miles
Thursday: rest day (this was supposed to be the longer run day, but work and life got in the way)
Friday: this was supposed to be rest day, but instead I went with my friend on a run that was supposed to be “slow and easy”  7 miles at a 9:51 pace is not slow and easy.  But we had a good time.  My time might have been better Saturday if I had swapped Thursday and Friday, but life happens and sometimes you just have to roll with it.
Saturday: .82 warm up and 3.13 for the race

Total: 23.95 miles

My next half marathon ins in 26 days.  So it’s time to get serious.  I need to run a 12 mile run sometime soon!  This week I hope to have a closer to 30 mile total.

Did you do anything fun this weekend?
