From the Publisher:
Mae Li has been in love with Chen Zhu for years, and he with her. But when the matchmaker arrives at the Zhu family home, she recommends another village girl for Chen.

Heartbroken, Mae Li watches as Chen does his duty by marrying another. Mae flees her village with the clothes on her back and her only possession—a pearl embedded comb, given to her as a goodbye gift from Chen Zhu.

Upon Mae’s arrival in Shanghai, she quickly learns that she’ll starve within days unless she sells her prized comb or joins a courtesan house. She goes to the Huangpu River and promises the River God that she’ll always be selfless if he will save her from becoming a prostitute . . . Her wish is granted when Ms. Tan, the matchmaker of Shanghai, finds Mae. But Mae must completely change her future and her name if she is to become the next matchmaker.

Review:

I believe I saw this book first on a blog – probably a blogs of one of these authors, since I follo quite a few of them. And I have to admit – the pretty cover totally got me and I figured I could at least try this out since it was a short (60 page) novella – plus a lot of these authors are ones that I’ve read before or had on my list to read so I knew it would most likely be worth my time.

This little novella sets up the stage for next year when there will be a Matchmaker series with a new book released every month.  I am pretty excited for this and think it’s a really ingenious idea!  I’m thinking it is pretty similar to the Spirit Animals series (my kids loved those books) but an adult clean romance version.  Which sounds exactly like something I would like, right?

I really enjoyed this story.  For the length it was good. My problem with novellas is that they can always be longer.  I really wanted MORE of this story.  But I will just have to wait and see how this all works out next year.  Maybe I will learn more of it.

My only real question I have about this book – is how in the world did all those authors collaborate and write a 60 page book!?  I bet that was super hard!

The kindle price isn’t to bad (2.99), you can purchase the book here, but it’s only available on a kindle app.  (Remember you don’t need a kindle to read a kindle book you can download the app for free and read on almost any electronic device.)

It’s a fun little read that will keep you reading for a short afternoon read.  And keep you wanting more next year!
Are you familiar with any of these authors?  Which ones do you love?
