2015 In Review

December 31, 2015

2015 was pretty good to us.  We had some moments, but we’ve definitely had worse.  There’s no better time, then the last day of the year, to review my goals from last year and see how I did.

Since I didn’t revive this blog until the end of January, these were originally posted on my family blog.  We kept it pretty simple with our goals this last year – I had 4 main goals I wanted to work towards:

  • 52 books
  • Run 2 half marathons
  • Run 4 times a week
  • Be more frugal

book

Read 52 books

I crushed this goal! In July when hit 50 I decided to bump my goal up to 100.  I’ve read some great books this year.
My book total for 2015 is:
114!

I haven’t posted about them all yet, but I will be getting to them all soon.
It’s so much more fun to read than it is to write reviews 😉

Run 2 Half Marathons

This was another goal that I crushed!

In January I ran the St. George half.  It was my first ever and I had so much fun with my sister!

In June I ran the Utah Valley Half and the American Fork Canyon Half. I must have felt so great the day I decided to register for these… they were only two weeks apart and I did a long run with friends in between.  I didn’t really mind the races being two weeks apart, but I don’t think I’ll do a long run in between next time.

And then to finish off the year of races, I ran the South Jordan Half in October.

I learned a lot from stretching myself and running four.
I think it will be a goal to keep for 2016.
I would love to break that 2 hour mark.

Run 4 Times A Week

I didn’t really keep track of how many times I ran a week.  There were plenty of times this year that I ran 4 times a week – but there were certainly times I didn’t run 4 times a week as well.  I did keep track of how many miles I ran this year. Next year I am going to set a mileage goal.  I think that is much easier to measure.

A few weeks ago I sat down and was looking at My Garmin Connect and my miles for the year and I got this crazy idea.  If I pushed myself I could run 1100 miles in one year!

Well…I ran and ran.  I ran my little legs off last week.  And then this week.  Life happened and Heavenly Father must think it’s pretty funny for me to make my 1100 goal.  I only had 19 miles left and a couple days to do it.  I was feeling pretty good.  But then a stomach bug hit our family and two kids went down at the same time. Laundry and Lysol on repeat have consumed me the last couple days.

seriously.

The odds are against me.

I might not have run 1100.  But I am still stronger for what I accomplished this year.  And I learned to focused on what I needed to focus on this week…and that wasn’t running.

My total for 2015 is:
1085!

That’s just three miles short of running all the way to Des Moines, Iowa – where we lived for a couple years during medical school.

Be More Frugal

That last goal – be more frugal….I’m not even sure how to measure that.  It really wasn’t the best goal because it was so vague.  I think I worked on this one, but I can’t even gauge this.  So I’m throwing this goal out – and making a HUGE point to make sure my goals for 2016 are measurable goals.

Review:

So I did it!  I feel pretty good about the progress I made in 2015 even though the last two goals didn’t really work out as I had planned.  I’m really looking forward to 2016.  I’m hoping to set some great goals and really work hard.

What goals did you make in 2015?  How did you do?

I’m taking the weekend off to spend with family, recover from our crazy flu, and re-group.

Next week I have some great posts planned: My goals for 2016.  My reading list.
Some great stuff!
