From the Publisher:

Lani has lived in Hana, Hawaii for five years. She’s learned to surf, fish, dive, and manage her grandmother’s bed and breakfast. She’s also learned to take one day at a time the way it should be taken—relaxed and unrushed, savoring every moment.

But, like a large wave on the brink of breaking, her life is about to crash out of control. A proposal of marriage, a conniving grandmother, a cryptic Asian woman, and a handsome guest, and suddenly everything calm begins to churn, everything clear becomes confused, and all that was normal segues into peculiar.

As Lani struggles against the current to hold her ground, she realizes that she can either continue to fight and eventually lose, or take a take a leap of faith, hold her breath, and ride the wave wherever it takes her.

Review:

This is the second book in the Matchmaker series. (third if you can the prequel novella)  These are all stand alone books, but each part of a series of books that circle around one character, Pearl, who is the matchmaker.  There are 12 books in this series, and one will be released each month this year.  I really like the idea, because while I’ve heard of some authors, some are new to me and I’m guaranteed a new book each month! I’m excited to find some new authors, and read new books from old favorite authors.  Plus- each of these will be a clean romance too!  I’m a huge fan of that!

Not Always Happenstance takes place in Hawaii.  I have never been to Hawaii – (everyone can gasp in awe now) but the descriptions in this book were vivid and I could really see myself in the location. Now I really want to go to Hawaii and stay at a bed and breakfast just like Lani and her grandmother have! I just fell in love with the place, the setting, the people and family.

I really enjoyed the characters in this book. They were not perfect and they were able to learn and grow throughout the book. Easton really changed and I appreciated that.  Lani was fun and headstrong.  I laughed out loud during a fishing scene between her and Easton. I just wanted to give the girl a hug and a high five for standing up and telling him how she really felt!  I loved that Pearl was present throughout almost the entire book.  She is so wise and gave such good advice!

“I’ve seen lots of pain in my life, but I’ve also sen a lot of joy, and when joy blossoms from pain, it’s more exquisite.  Don’t look down on yourself for too long, Easton.  It is so much better to look up.” – Pearl, Chapter 20, Not Always Happenstance

I don’t think I’ve read anything by Anderson in the past – unless I didn’t really pay attention.  But after reading this book I had to look up her Amazon page and now my never-ending TBR list has a few more added to it 🙂  That always makes me happy to find an author and that has a lot of new books I can read.

You can grab Not Always Happenstance on Amazon right now (click here) – and if you have Kindle Unlimited, you can read it for free!
