From the Publisher:

From the Power of the Matchmaker series: BETWEEN HEAVEN AND EARTH Cassandra Webb’s every waking minute is devoted to being a great mother and wife. She takes five-year-old Noah to the library each week, volunteers in his kindergarten class, and even coaches his soccer team. She makes sure her husband’s uniforms are always laundered—even though he hasn’t worn them the last six years—always has his game day snacks on hand, and meets him for date night every Friday—which consists of one sided conversations at his bedside and watching his favorite take out remain untouched. Pearl, a mysterious visitor at the care center, suggests that it is only Cassie’s love still tying Devon to Earth when he has been ready to move onto Heaven for quite some time. If Cassie will but open her eyes and heart, she will discover the path she should travel, one that will bring relief to Devon and much joy to her own life. But Cassie vowed never to give up on him. She never has and she can’t now, even after meeting hapless, single soccer-dad Matt.

Review:

Between Heaven and Earth is a stand alone book, but part of the matchmaker series of books written by 12 different authors.  I’ve really enjoyed this series, because it has twelve different books in this series that are being released, one each month this year.  So every month I know I have a new book waiting for me! While you can read each book separately there is one reoccurring character, Pearl (The Match Maker) in each book.  I really love this idea and really liked the prequel novella about The Matchmaker. While I am familiar with some of the authors, some of them are new to me and I am excited to see how this all turns out!  I also really like how the different books in the series are set in different periods of time, some are modern day and some are historical fiction.  It is a really good mixture for me.

I’ve heard a lot about Michele Paige Homles, I even have a couple of her books on my kindle.  But sadly I haven’t read any of her books until now.  (I kinda take that back…I’v probably read a few of her short stories in the anthology collections, but I haven’t read any of her full length novels).  For this reason I was really looking forward to reading the August book in the series.

I believe that this is one of the longest books in the series – with 400 pages. It seems like most around 250-300.  I could be wrong – but either way, it didn’t feel longer at all!  I was quickly drawn into the story.  While I felt it was a bit predicable, I still enjoyed it.  Sometimes predictable isn’t all bad:)

Maybe this is bad to admit, but I kinda felt myself a little judge-y towards Cassie while reading this book – I kept thinking it was SO many years and she was just hanging on forever. But then I would remind myself that I have no idea how I would react in this situation.  I thought this book had such a good message behind it all.  That in life we have to go for things.  We have to take challenges and step outside our comfort zone.  Cassie was stuck in her comfort zone and nothing was going to change for her.  Nothing changes, if nothing changes.  And both Cassie and Matt found that out throughout the book.

You cannot love life until you live the life you love.

I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read more from Holmes now.  With the exception of one book, (It just wasn’t my over the top favorite) I’ve overall thought the match maker book series has been fun and worth my time each month.  Below are the links to my reviews for each book…and poor June.  I just feel like it’s getting the bad wrap, it wasn’t my favorite book and so I haven’t really put the time into review it either.

Overall, loved this book.  The series is fun. This summer has been hit and miss for me to find time to read and it was nice to sit down and enjoy a good book.  I can’t wait to read the rest of the books in the series!
