Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne, John Tiffany
320 pages
Hard copy edition

From the Publisher:

Based on an original new story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, a new play by Jack Thorne, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is the eighth story in the Harry Potter series and the first official Harry Potter story to be presented on stage. The play will receive its world premiere in London’s West End on July 30, 2016.

It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children.

While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.

Review:

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was one of my most anticipated books this summer and it did not disappoint!  I was so excited when this book finally got delivered from Amazon and I couldn’t wait to start it (I had to finish another book first).  Once I started it I devoured this book. If you know me, you know that I’m not a reader that can stay up all night reading a book.  I fall asleep pretty early every night, but I will wake up early to read…but this book kept me up till I finished it. And that’s saying something!  It was so fun to be back in the Harry Potter world!  I now want to go back and reread all the books again!

If you don’t know, it is written as a play.  And it is not written by Rowling.  It took me a while to get used to reading it.  Some parts felt a little choppy, but I tried to envision this on stage as I read it and that really helped.  I know there have been some reviews out there that are disappointed in the book and the characters – that they aren’t true to Rowlings.  Maybe I am just not that attached. I think people will look for what they want to look for – and haters are going to hate. I read this for fun and though tit was just that – a fun book.  I though it had some interesting twits and I loved the plot and the idea behind it. In the end I was super happy with the ending – and that is what matters. I thought it had some great references back to the books – Neville, Dumbledore, Hermione, Malfoy, Snape. (I was super excited to revisit Snape again!)  I loved it all. I felt it was wrapped up well in the ending as well.  I don’t want to post any spoilers…so I’ll leave my review at that.  I would LOVE to talk to anyone who has read it!

Honestly, I was looking to enjoy the book.  I was hoping it would be fun and entertaining and it was.  I’ll be revisiting the Harry Potter series again in the near future!  I can’t wait!
