My one little word….

January 3, 2017

I’ve always been a big fan of choosing a word or theme to focus on for the year. I love finding the word to guide my year, something that gives me something to work towards and help me set my priorities.  This year I’ve been pondering about what word for the last few weeks.  I finally asked for some suggestions on my facebook page and got a lot of great ideas.  The word that finally stuck out and one that I cannot get out of my mind since is BALANCE.

I looked up BALANCE in the dictionary.  Some of the definitions I found include: like: a state of equilibrium or equipoise; equal distribution of weight, amount, etc.; habit of calm behavior; mental and emotional steadiness

Just what I need this year.

I need to find the balance of home, work, being a mom, a wife, a blogger, a R+F consultant, a runner.  I need to find the balance of it all.  I want 2017 to be a year that I really focus on finding out what priorities are really important to me and then taking those priorities and making sure I have time for them in my life.

My goals for this year might be some of the same, and some might be a little different.  I’ve been throwing the idea around of running a full marathon.  But I am really concerned about the time this is going to take away from my family.  Training takes a serious about of time and commitment.  I haven’t put the final veto on it yet – but right now I feel safe saying that making the goal to run 4 half marathons is a safer goal for me to make this year.  I want to achieve my goals.  But I also want balance.

For the past 4 years I’ve made a goal to read 100 books a year.  I’ve surpassed this goal each year.  But this year I think I’ll do it different.  I want to read whatever books I want to read.  I love spending my Christmas break curled up with a blanket and a good book – but I don’t want to do it because I still have 5 books to read to reach my goal.  I’m going to set my reading goal at 52 books.  A book a week.  If I surpass it great.  If I don’t, I’m really not going to feel that disappointed either.  I want to just enjoy reading this year.

I’ve made some personal goals too. I want to pray more.  I want to read the Book of Mormon.  I want to study more scripture and uplifting books.  I’ve struggled with faith this past year and I want to focus on this in 2017.  I want to use this year to grow closer to Heavenly Father.

I also really have some big goals for 2017 with my Rodan and Fields business.  It’s been a fun little side-gig to work and I enjoy it. But in 2017 I am going to strive to find some balance in it.  I need to embrace the fact that I am a work at home mom.  I think once I can let go of some guilt I hold and set some better boundaries for myself and my family.

Like the quote, I think I can do anything.  I don’t think I can do everything.  But I believe that this year I can accomplish some really great goals and really grow if I focus on creating a good BALANCE.
