Recently Released Proper Romance

November 7, 2017

I’ve finally hit a reading grove the past month or so and read so many great books. This past week I was able to sit down and enjoy two newer Proper Romance and Regency Romance books.  These are two of my favorite collections so I was super excited to get my hands on them!  And while I’ll admit right now, they aren’t my top picks from either collection, they are still books I would add to my shelf and books that I recommend.

Lies Jane Austen Told Me: A Proper Romance by [Wright, Julie]

Lies Jane Austen Told Me
Julie Wright
320 pages
ARC from Netgalley

Lies Jane Austen Told Me is the newest book in the Proper Romance collection.  However, this is a contemporary novel, not a regency like many of their past books.  Is that good or bad? – well that depends on your opinion.  I really love the proper romance books, but I just have a harder time when they are not regency and they are set in modern day – for some reason they seem a bit less believable? Although  I think that’s just my own issue, because I know lots of my girl-friends love these books, no matter what time period it is set in.   That besides the point really – because I still did like this story.  I’ve read some other books by Wright (I really loved Four Chambers as part of the Power of the Matchmaker series).  I loved the Austen references – they were pretty clever and made me laugh.  Blake was pretty non-existent to me – and he was supposed to be the bad guy – but I didn’t quite get enough of him to hate him to begin with.  I did love Luke though.  I think it would be hard to read this book and not love Luke.  Overall I felt it was a fun quick book – 4 out of 5 stars for me.  And although I don’t think it was my favorite Proper Romance book ever – I still would want it added to my collection on my shelf.

Miss Leslie's Secret by [Moore, Jennifer]

Miss Leslie’s Secret
Jennifer Moore
240 pages
ARC through NetGalley

Another fun regency romance from Moore!  I’ve read all her other Regency Romance books and always found them easy to read and enjoyable. Miss Leslie’s Secret was a little bit slower at the beginning for me, but the second half really took off and I couldn’t put it down.  I really liked Aileen, but I was surprised that she didn’t really even let Conell in on her secret, even when they were engaged.  No wonder he was mad!  Plus, I didn’t really didn’t see why that was reason for her to never get mad at the boy! I really loved the setting, it was a beautiful area and the descriptions really took me there.  I liked this book – maybe a 4 out of 5 stars, but I think my favorite Jennifer Moore book to date has been Miss Burton Unmasks a Prince.  This one was still a fun one and worth the time it took to read.  If you love clean regency books give it a try.

Have you had a chance to read either of these?  Have you read any other books by Moore or Wright?
