It happens every once in a while, I just hit a reading slump and don’t read much. March was one of those months for me. I finished five books, but I just wasn’t feeling the love for reading like I wanted too. Marathon training is also in full swing, which makes me tired, so it doesn’t help that every time I sit down with a book I also fall asleep!
It seems like forever ago, but I picked up The Hiding Place, by Corrie Ten Boom (which I couldn’t believe I hadn’t read before) and I couldn’t put it down. This was such an amazing book of faith, hope, love and forgiveness. Corrie Ten Boom was a Dutch watchmaker who housed and help Jewish families escape during the Holocust an then was arrested and sent to Ravensbruck herself. I have never been in a situation where I have to pray to help me find a reason to be thankful for a flea infested bed. But she has and she found a reason to be thankful. Everyone should read this book.
In March I finally got around to reading the long-awaited new release from Rachel Hollis! I was actually kinda nervous that this book couldn’t live up to the hype surrounding it, but found that Girl, Stop Apologizing was pretty well done and I was happy with it. Well, I did feel that there was one part about confidence that I didn’t totally agree with her and the point she was trying to make – it seemed pretty unrelatable to me….but she also stopped drinking Diet Coke in her first book and talked about how wonderful that was – and I forgave her for that, so…….
Back to the book, in true Hollis fashion, I felt inspired by this book and highlighted and marked so many sections. I love her ideas about goal settings and writing down your dreams! If you loved her first book, or follow her on social media and enjoy her than I highly recommend this book.
I’ve been following author Heidi Kimball on Instagram for the last couple months, she has a couple short novellas and A Guarded Heart is is her first full length book. I was super excited for it! She has a sweet writing style and I enjoy getting lost in her stories for an afternoon. There is a little bit of mystery in this book as we try to figure out what went on in the past between the couple, and Kimball does a good job going between past and present without getting too confusing. Besides getting mad at some of the other supporting characters near the end, I really enjoyed most of the characters and can’t wait to read more! Kimball has a new release out this month too – Maiden In the Tower, I haven’t got to it yet, but I looking forward to reading more and more from her in the future!
The two other books I read in March were: The Fault in Our Stars, which I know, I know, I haven’t read before and everyone raves about how great it is. Guys, I didn’t love it. It was ok, like it wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t my favorite. It kinda had a Me, Before You vibe to me. I think everyone has a book (or two or three) that are super popular that you just don’t like. Sign me up for that list on this one. It’s ok. The other book was for work, The New Thriving Medical Practice, which I don’t really recommend, unless, of course, you are a medical practice owner, like us, and are interested in reading it – then it was good and full of information for us to think about…but this was more like a “homework” for me kinda book.
There you have it – my five books I read in March. April is looking up – we’ve had lots of rainy days – which make perfect days for reading, right? What have you been reading lately? Have you read any of these? Leave ma comment and let me know!
