Review:
When a friend posted about this show on facebook a few weeks ago, I quickly took a screen shot so I could remember it and watch it in the future.  (am I the only one who takes screen shots of things I need to remember?) Then a couple weeks went by. Every year when my husband takes the older boys for the archery hunt weekend I always try to find a show or movie to watch while they are gone.  I thought this year I would try this one and I got hooked on the show and loved it!  (Season one is on Netflix, season two is available on Amazon Prime.)  I know I’ve mentioned this show a time or two 🙂 in the past couple weeks.

When another friend saw that I had been watching the show, she recommended the books to me.  I’ve read a lot of books, and think I know a lot about books and series – but how did I not know that these were based on books!?  Maybe I miss something in the credits or something? Anyway – I did some research and found out that she also wrote the Love Comes Softly series, another show that I really loved, but I haven’t read either.  I finally decided it was time to get with it – and read a couple of these books.

I really enjoyed this first book in the series.  The names are not the same as the Hallmark series. And it really doesn’t follow the book too close (which my friend warned me about). Season two of the show ends in a total cliff hanger – and I was really hoping to find out the answer in the book…but I’m pretty sure that won’t happen.  Regardless, I still love the book and I still love the series too.  I guess I’ll have to wait until season 3 comes out to find out my answers.  I thought the book was clean and simple and reminded me a lot of some of the book that I’ve really enjoyed by Bess Streeter Aldrich.  Great pioneer, western stories that are wholesome and heartwarming.

I am looking forward to reading some more books in the series.  I also checked out a couple of her other books at the library that are different series.  They all look so good.  I’m not sure what it is about fall that makes me want to curl up with a blanket, hot chocolate and a good pioneer book , but it all seems to fit for me.
