A regency twist on My Fair Lady!
Jack Eliot dreams of being the captain of his own ship. But then his grandfather, the Earl of Stansworth, names Jack as his heir — with a caveat. Jack must impress the aristocracy, or else his mother and sister will remain in poverty. Can a rough-and-tumble captain be transformed into a gentleman of society?
Ivy Carlisle is willing to try. Employed as his tutor, she begins teaching Jack the ways of high society, but she quickly discovers that this dashing sailor is brash and bold, opinionated and passionate. If she’s not careful, Jack might end up teaching her a thing or two about romance.
Sparks fly when the sailor meets society, and Jack soon learns that his challenge isn’t surviving theton, but surviving the conspiracies against him — as well as keeping himself from falling madly in love with his new tutor.
Review:
I have been a huge fan of the Proper Romance books and was really looking forward to this new book. I haven’t ever read anything by Nancy Allen Campbell so I was unsure what I would think, I was just trusting on the Proper Romance name and hoping it would be as good as the others
And I was not disappointed! I loved this twist on My Fair Lady! I really fell in love with the characters. Jack was so funny – I would have loved to have seen more of his good friend Pug though. I thought he was a great addition to the story. I really loved Ivy. She was the perfect character to me, she had the ability to charm, but still tell people exactly how it was and get her way. There is a scene at a funeral that had me laughing out loud. I just wanted to high five her for her comments! The more I read, the more I loved her depth and development. I really loved the friendship that was formed between Sophia and Ivy. While some of the story (the romance) were pretty predictable I did think some parts of the book were totally unexpected and kept me on my toes wanting for more.
If you are a fan of the Proper Romance books you will not want to miss out on this one. In case you haven’t read any of the Proper Romance books – you will want to look these books up! I’ve read them all and can guarantee these are sweet historical romance books that are clean!
