Friday Five

August 31, 2018

Oh, it’s been so long since I’ve posted a Friday Five.  Life is always busy, but we all have to start somewhere, so I’m starting today!

  1.  I’ll be completely honest. My current relationship with running is a tricky one. My humdrum mood is probably a direct result of my lack of running.  I love these funny running charts from Buzzfeed.  My 4th half marathon of the year is next week though. Ready or not, I’ll be running it.  eik!

2. It’s harvest time!  No time for running or reading when you have salsa to make and bottle!  Last Saturday I finished 24 pints of salsa and I have so much more I need to do!

Every time I can I love it, but seriously, it’s SO much work.  This week I saw a funny post on Instagram that reminded me of canning salsa…..I know, I can buy it in the store guys.  I know.

3. My baby started kindergarten.  It’s only half day, and she is totally ready, but I have to admit. It’s a strange thing.  I’ve been a stay at home mom and always had a kid with me for the past 14 years.  It’s a good thing for her to go and she has loved her first week, but it’s a big moment!  What a change! I actually was super busy this week anyway, but one morning I was able to sneak off to the library for some reading time (and avoid the laundry at home).

4. My favorite book from the week: The Butterfly and the Violin by Kristy Cambron.  After reading (and loving) The Lost Castle, I wanted to read more books by Cambron.  This one was fantastic.  It jumps between modern day and WWII. It’s a Christian book, so it’s totally clean and but the second half did have pretty strong Christian undertones to it.  Not that it’s bad, but I sometimes feel it feels a little forced.  I started the second book in the series this morning.  I can’t wait to read it!

5. And last, but not least, my favorite quote from the week.  I’ve been reading and studying a lot about women in the church lately.  We have such strong amazing women.  I think we have so much potential but we let ourselves get so distracted by so many other things. Myself included. This quote actually came from an address Sister Holland gave in 1987!  Holy Smokes, that was a long time ago but SO applicable now too!  The talk is a little lengthy so I’ve been reading and studying it, but it’s well worth your time to read too, you can find the whole text by clicking here.

What have you been reading this week? I’ve updated my current reading list if you need some suggestions.  You can find that here. Do you have any fun holiday weekend plans?  We have family coming in town for a baptism.  It should be a great weekend full of family and food.
