What I’ve Been Reading: August

October 18, 2018

Phew!  It’s no secret I let this blog go every once in a while…life happens and it has!  I need to play catch up now and post about what I’ve been reading.  Here are a few of my favorites from August:

Elizabeth Smart released a new book that was on my summer reading list, so this month I made time to read both of her books, Where There’s Hope and My Story.  I still remember the day she went missing, we lived at the U at the time. We spent hours helping with the search. I remember having conversations with my husband, and how we were certain she was in the mountains somewhere. I also worked downtown and passed by Brian Mitchell on more than one occasion while he was panhandling. I also remember exactly where I was day they found her! Our whole office was a mess of tears! The story has always been one I followed, but I never read her books until now.

Where There’s Hope is very different than her first book and is a series of interviews with people who have faced and overcome hardships. I found it really inspiring. Her writing reads more like a conversation than a story, which works well in this second book. I have always been in awe of her ability to overcome and use her experience for good! I highly suggest reading Where There’s Hope. It would make a great book club book too! My Story was a harder book to read, not because of the writing, but the subject was just hard to read and take in at points. Having searched for her it was so hard to read and heartbreaking.  Have you followed her story? Have you read either of her books?

You Are Magnificent, by Ganel-Lyn Condie was another favorite this month.  I am a huge fan of Ganel-Lyn and always find inspiration and hope from her books. I wish every woman could read this. We are enough! We don’t have to know it all or have to all together. Questions are good! Study, pray, have faith, feel peace. You are doing better than you think you are! “I am enough in Christ and so are you. I don’t have to have all be answers today to know that I know enough. I don’t have to be perfect. And neither do you!”

Josi Kilpack released a new book and I was SO excited for this one! Promises and Primroses! Hearts and history come together in this book as we are introduced to a new family and cast of characters from Kilpack!  This is book one in a series and I already can’t wait for the next one. Proper Romance books are always a win-win for me!

Summer life got crazy and it took me so much longer to finish this book than I wanted it too…but seriously it was such a good story!  The Lost Castle by Kristy Cambron was not just a pretty covered book (although the cover is BEAUTIFUL!) Not just a love story and not just a WWII story either! And super clean, but in a good way, not cheesy!

Told in three different time periods: French Revolution, WWII and present day, The Lost Castle tells the story of a castle, of love and war. I would love to see this book turned into a movie! It would be fantastic!

What have you been reading?  I hope to share some of my favorites from September soon – and then hopefully be all cuaght up by the end of October!  I’m currently reading  book number 83 towards my 100 goal!  The end is in site!
